Make use of the frunk, unlock with your phone: New enhancements for Elroq and Enyaq
Škoda Auto has prepared a comprehensive set of practical upgrades for its popular electric models, the Elroq and Enyaq. New vehicles will, for example, gain the V2L functionality for powering external appliances, one-pedal driving, smartphone-based vehicle access, additional luggage space under the bonnet and a range of further innovations.
The Elroq and Enyaq electric vehicles for new model year, production of which will begin around the middle of this year, will introduce numerous new features. These include a front luggage compartment, an upgraded infotainment system with new applications and functions, the option to use a smartphone as a digital key, improved wireless charging, the ability to power a wide range of electrical devices, and an enhanced Travel Assist 3.0 safety package, alongside additional safety systems and a variety of other major and minor improvements. A number of these updates are the direct result of customer feedback.
Customer-driven innovations
As part of the brand’s Simply Clever range of solutions, the Elroq and Enyaq gain a new front luggage compartment, commonly referred to as a “frunk”. With a capacity of 21 litres, it is located directly under the bonnet and is ideal for storing charging cables, ensuring easy access even when the main trunk is fully loaded. New gas struts further improve usability by making the bonnet easier to open.
Not only enthusiastic electric vehicle users will appreciate the V2L function, which effectively allows the Elroq and Enyaq to act as a large power bank. It enables the vehicle to supply power to various electrical devices either directly from the charging port via an adapter or through a built-in 230V socket inside the car. On the road, this makes it easy to power devices such as a laptop, vacuum cleaner or compressor, as well as a coffee machine or various camping equipment.
New driving possibilities are introduced through so-called one-pedal driving. The B driving mode now offers two basic levels of regenerative braking, with the stronger setting capable of bringing the vehicle to a complete stop. This allows drivers to accelerate and decelerate smoothly using only the accelerator pedal, without the need to press the brake. The level of recuperation can always be adjusted via the infotainment system or using the paddles under the steering wheel.
Improved technology for comfort and safety
The infotainment system itself has also been revised. A redesigned user interface places key functions along the sides of the display, improving clarity and simplifying tasks such as adjusting temperature settings or seat heating and ventilation. The built-in navigation system now features a fully integrated Powerpass charging application, allowing users not only to filter charging stations according to various criteria but also to exclude specific stations they may have had negative experiences with. Preferred stations and networks, as well as the Plug & Charge function, can also be configured. The Powerpass network now includes more than one million charging points.
The MyŠkoda app receives several updates in parallel with the infotainment system. It will now notify users if the alarm is triggered and introduces a new stolen vehicle tracking function. A practical addition is the ability to flash the vehicle’s lights to make it easier to locate in large car parks. More detailed statistics on driving and energy consumption will also be available.
Another welcome digital feature is the option to use selected smartphones as a vehicle key. Access to the car will no longer depend solely on a traditional remote key, and the digital key can be easily shared with other users when required. Smartphones are also linked to another improvement: upgraded wireless charging in the centre console storage compartment. The Elroq and Enyaq now support Qi2 technology, enabling charging power of up to 25 W, as well as MagSafe for more secure phone placement.
New versions of the Elroq and Enyaq will also offer an even more comprehensive range of driver assistance systems. The Travel Assist 3.0 package includes refined and, in some cases, hardware-upgraded sensors, including new radar units, resulting in smoother and more natural responses during assisted driving. A new interior camera further improves the detection of driver inattention or fatigue.
A further detail enhancing everyday usability is a new automatic lighting function. Previously, Škoda vehicles distinguished only between light and darkness. They can now also recognise a third condition: twilight. In good lighting conditions, the vehicle automatically activates daytime running lights; in reduced visibility, such as overcast weather, dawn or dusk, the rear lights are also activated; and in darkness, the main headlamps are switched on.
